Marcus DeLoach
Marcus DeLoach received acclaim in the 2016 and 2017 seasons for his creation of the roles of Senator Joseph McCarthy in Cincinnati Opera’s Fellow Travelers (Gregory Spears/Greg Pierce) and the Minister in Opera Philadelphia’s Breaking the Waves (Missy Mazzoli/Royce Vavrek), a role he reprised at the PROTOTYPE festival in January. Earlier in 2016, he made his debut at Opera Philadelphia as Bill Owens in the East Coast premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain.
DeLoach made his debut at Teatro Comunale di Bolzano as Jean in Philippe Boesmans’ Julie in 2009 and at Opera Ireland as the title role in Dead Man Walking in 2007. As a principal artist of New York City Opera he sang numerous roles, including Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Slim in Of Mice and Men. He has also performed with Seattle Opera, Bard Summerscape Festival, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Utah Opera, Tulsa Opera, Central City Opera, American Opera Projects, and many others.
DeLoach was unanimously voted the first place winner of London’s inaugural Wigmore Hall International Song Competition in 1997. He has appeared in concert with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, The Marilyn Horne Foundation, the New York Philharmonic, The London Symphony Orchestra, Die Münchner Philharmoniker, and numerous American orchestras. In 2004, DeLoach sang lead vocals with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in their rock opera Christmas Eve and Other Stories with performances in Madison Square Garden and the Fleet Center, among others.
