Lucas Bouk
Lucas made his Lincoln Center debut with New York City Opera as Sarah in the World Premiere of Iain Bell and Mark Campbell’s Stonewall in June 2019. He was profiled in the New York Times
and featured in the New Yorker’s “Talk of the Town.” In 2019 he also debuted with St. Petersburg Opera Company and Alamo City Opera. For Alamo City, he performed the role of Hannah-after in Laura Kaminsky, Kimberly Reed & Mark Campbell’s As One and reprised the role in NYC later that year. He celebrated World Pride 50 by performing with New York City Opera at Bryant Park and sang with ChamberQUEER at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange.
Lucas is a frequent collaborator with librettist Bea Goodwin. In his debut as a writer & producer, Lucas & Bea told his coming-out story cabaret-style in: Mr. Liz’s One [wo] Man Show: [Living in
the In-Between]. Bea has created many roles for Lucas, including Queen Anne in Princess Maleine (2019) composed by Whitney George and Tristan Tzara in Tabula Rasa (2018) composed by Felix Jarrar. The pair are working together now with Jarrar and George, and with composer Rossa Crean, on song cycles set to debut in Fall 2021.
Lucas is a proud trans-man. Prior to the COVID pandemic he was praised for his “silky mezzo” (New York Times), a “shimmering alto” (Observer), and an “impressive firmly-grounded contralto” (Opera News). Lucas has transitioned with testosterone and is excited to make his debut as a baritone with On Site Opera at the Little Island Festival.
