A Welcome from Artistic Director Sarah Meyers
Happy New Year to you all! This one is particularly thrilling for me as I begin my new role as your Artistic Director here at On Site Opera. As we enter this new phase for the company, I want to stress my commitment to the future of On Site. I take such pride in joining an organization with a proven track record for quality and innovation and heart. I am thrilled to work with General Director and CEO Piper Gunnarson and Music Director Geoffrey McDonald. I am immensely grateful to my predecessor Eric Einhorn for founding this remarkable company, and for leading it with such vision and integrity for over a decade. On Site Opera simply would not exist without him. We are all lucky to be able to uphold and build upon the foundation for excellence that he created.
In honor of the New Year, here are some of my OSO resolutions for the coming year and beyond!
– To continue to foster a respectful and welcoming environment for our diverse community of artists, patrons and staff
– To explore a wide variety of repertoire for upcoming performances. On Site has the capacity and the pleasure to showcase both contemporary opera and new commissions as well as works from opera’s vast history. We will continue to offer stories from unheard voices as well as lesser-known pieces from beloved composers
– To foster new partnerships and collaborations across the vibrant artistic landscape of New York City
– And always, to find that magical interaction between space and story that is at the heart of everything OSO does.
2024 promises to be a thrilling year for On Site Opera. We have taken up residence in a new home! We are building towards the world premiere of Lucidity, a new opera by Laura Kaminsky and David Cote in the fall. And we are expanding our community with new venues, locations, stories and a full line-up of summer concerts to look forward to! In the very near future, we’ll be warming up February with our performances of Bach’s Coffee Cantata at the Lost Draft Café. Come join us!!!
