On Site Opera’s acclaimed production of Paisiello’s The Barber of Seville at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts has been cancelled.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, On Site Opera has been working closely with the Caramoor Festival to determine the feasibility of reviving our production of The Barber of Seville at Caramoor this summer. After significant brainstorming and strategizing, we mutually-determined that Barber should be postponed to a future season to protect the health and safety of artists, audience, and staff. If you have already purchased a ticket for a performance of Barber, please click here for refund/exchange information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Caramoor’s Box Office Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 4:00pm at 914.232.1252 or boxoffice@caramoor.org
While the well-being of artists and audiences is paramount to both of our organizations, continuing to support our artists remains critical as well. To that end, On Site Opera and Caramoor plan to pay full fees to all of the artists and production staff contracted to work on Barber despite the cancellation. You can support this effort by donating to On Site Opera’s Artist Support Fund. If you donate before June 1st, your contribution will be matched, doubling the impact of your gift!
We eagerly look forward to returning to the beautiful Caramoor grounds in future years to brighten the many corners of their historic estate with opera.
With a libretto by Giuseppe Petrosellini, Paisiello’s Barber stays true to its Beaumarchais roots, focusing more faithfully on the love story between the Count and Rosina and less on the Barber’s antics. After its premiere, the opera quickly became a staple of the repertoire and inspired a young Rossini to write his own version. On Site Opera will bring its 2015 production to the beautiful Rosen House on the grounds of Caramoor. The opera will unfold in the outdoor Spanish Courtyard and inside the stunning music room of Rosen House.
Produced in collaboration with the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.
