Cynthia Marino

Cindy originally hails from Southern California where she and her twin sister first began working in theatre. She spent 4 years in Northern California earning her BA in Theatre and a minor in Behavior Psychology from the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Following another 2 years in Cincinnati, Ohio (MFA in Stage Management from the College-Conservatory of Music on a full ride scholarship), she packed her bags and moved to NYC.

Within a week of landing, Cindy was hired to be the Production Assistant for Equus on Broadway (with Daniel Radcliff and the late Richard Griffiths). She then worked as the Production Stage Manager for the original Dear Edwina Off-Broadway for 6 months. Her 1st contract with Long Beach Opera was as the Stage Manager on Nixon in China (a show she has done twice and loves). For the last 7 plus years, she has lived almost exclusively in the world of Opera (working on over 40 productions).

Before landing in Stage (and Production) Management, Cindy spent her college years working in a costume and scene shop. Thanks to her mom teaching her how to use a sewing machine and her dad teaching her to design and build furniture from a young age, she is comfortable in both shops. In college she learned the basics of lighting design and how to program and run a light board. In Grad School she earned money by learning to lay marley dance floors and hang and focus lights for dance concerts.

Cindy believes that part of being a great stage manager is being able to understand and communicate with all areas of production. The better you understand another department’s wants and needs, the easier it is to make a production successful.

Cindy is also a strong believer in community and giving back. She was part of the LUMA Projection Arts Festival in Binghamton, NY in 2016 and 2017. She has also worked with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs on multiple productions of Broadway Bares and an Easter Bonnet. While at Tri-Cities Opera she mentored young stage managers at Binghamton University and helped train them through hands on experience.

Cindy is a proud member of American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and Actors Equity Associate (AEA). She has worked with Opera America on their New Works Showcase in January, 2017. She was also part of a panel at their national convention later that same year.
