Sable Strout

Sable Strout (She/Hers) is a site-specific Stage Director and Mezzo-soprano originally from Richmond, Maine. She is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Opera in the Pines, an alternative opera company based in Maine committed to reinventing the opera experience. As a singer Sable’s recent performance highlights include: Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia with Penn Square Opera, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Tri-cities Opera and Syracuse Opera, and Stéphano in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with Central City Opera. Other notable performance credits include: Flora (La Traviata), Mezzo-soprano soloist (Petite Messe Solennelle), Mercédès (Carmen), Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Giovanna (Rigoletto), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). Past young artist residencies include: Opera Saratoga, Opera Idaho, Central City Opera, Opera on the James, and Charlottesville Opera. Sable holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern Maine, as a student of Ellen Chickering, and a Master of Music from Wichita State University, as a student of Alan Held. As a director Sable’s recent works include The Diary of Anne Frank and Bar Crawl Bohème with Opera in the Pines, Assistant Director for On Site Opera’s Immersive Coffee Cantata Experience, as well as directing revival performances of the show
 
Upcoming directing engagements include: The Crucible with Opera in the Pines, completing an Opera Direction Certificate with Ithaca College, and Assistant Directing the world premiere of Lucidity by Laura Kaminsky and David Cote with both On Site Opera and Seattle Opera.
