Artega Wright

Originally hailing from Dallas, Texas, Artega Wright (he/him) is now based in the Mid-West, where he recently covered the role of Sam in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s world premiere of The Factotum. Wright made his Dayton Opera debut in the role of Balthazar in their recent production of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors and joined the Artists in Residence touring as the baritone soloist in Who Wants to Be an Opera Star? and will sing the role of Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold.  Mr. Wright will be a soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic in the Magic Carpet Concerts. Wright has performed with Opera Columbus, most recently singing Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola as well as Spurton and Nat Turner in Leslie S. Burrs’ Vanqui. Last summer, as an Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera, he stepped in on short notice as the lead role in Porgy and Bess to great acclaim. This year, Mr. Wright is singing the role of Talpa in Il Tabarro with On Site Opera. Wright earned his Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance from Wayland Baptist University.
