JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Curated by Grammy-winning singer Kenneth Overton, our Juneteenth Celebration concert features a selection of arias and art songs showcasing some of opera’s most important Black composers and librettists, and their rich legacy in New York City.
June 27 at 6pm
LA TRAVIATA
Enjoy excerpts from Verdi and Piave’s beloved opera La Traviata, with performers wandering among the garden singing some of opera’s most iconic music.
July 10 at 6pm
OPERA FAIRY TALES
This celebration of operas inspired by beloved fairy tales will feature songs from Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, and Rusalka (inspired by The Little Mermaid). Feel free to wear your favorite fairy tale costume!

Located on 89th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus, the West Side Community Garden was founded in 1976 on a trash-strewn vacant lot that had been slated for an urban renewal project. West Side Community Garden is committed to providing a beautiful, peaceful, green space in which everybody can relax. The only privately owned example of its kind in New York City, the garden is fully funded by grants and donations and run entirely by volunteers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Running time: Approximately 60 minutes.
- Performances will take place entirely outdoors.
- There will be minimal audience interaction.
